A Destiny Impulse

brought me to Menorca

only this same force

resting inside my chest can bring me home

The Ascetic carries

her own weight

and through doing so

the world is reborn

She is part of a long

line stretching outward and inside

and within her

every blossoming is all her own

she doesn’t care if you listen

her words are formed by her tongue,

vocal chords

in her throat she is free.

She wants to tell you all the Right things

about love

so we can rest in peace

She wants to nest with her thoughts

then give them to you one by one

like a mother feeding her young

She wants to harbor all the world’s clarity for one moment

embracing it’s fleeting presence like a ghost wrapped in a flimsy veil

She wants to tell you what she really means

what she’s held secret

and apart from the world

just to give to you

She dances at night on the clouds between

this world and yours

looking for meat to sink her teeth into

and a place to let her electric body ground

She lives awake

without the dross of expectant waiting

Her Knight and Night have come and gone

And without Theresa of Avila to show her

she makes paper airplanes that fly into crystalline jungles

She loves that you are here

her midwife

to a new world

her balls-on-fire repository of wisdom

She loves everything about you.

She is on fire

for everything life

brings to her

the lost sound of leaves crunching under foot

the depth feel of dragons playing tag under water

our final drink from this cup is messy and spilling all over

we’re half drunk

half awake

about to be completely stirred from our stupor

by a rude neighbor

an abhorrent outcast

we turned away a long time ago.

Soon we’ll clean our bloodied lips

and claim all of ourselves

as a new sun touches the tips of our fingers from the east.

There is no time for make believe

we have to hear the Ascetics call to

become flush with our own arriving.

Every time I say “I love you”

I’m setting off on a journey

to a place I’ve never been before.

How can something so new come from something so old.

My partner stands beside me and I’m pregnant with the new world

My baby forming

gyrating

pushing

swimming

in an ocean of fluid

this business is messy

I’ve not been known for my blood instinct

or my intimacy with amniotic juices and cartilage

or my fragile emotions

but here we are

midwifing, catalyzing, breaking hearts together

forgetting our past transgressions

upon breathe laced by

rarefied hope.
